It appears that more and more organizations are making the decision to block social networking sites. According to some ScanSafe research, seventy six percent of company’s (that have Scansafe) block social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace. This is a 20 percent increase in the last 6 months. This tells me that more and more organizations are waking up to the productivity and security implications of social networking sites. And for the record (because everyone keeps telling me that I am against social networking) I am not against social networking. I just think that far to many people don’t understand and manage the risks properly. I do think that only employees that need access to social networking sites should have it from work for these reasons, but there are legitimate reasons for social networking sites. But the vast majority of users don’t understand these risks and can create exposure for their customers. Not to mention the number of hours lost with these sites being available from work.
